The Peace

ザ・ピース

ザ・ピース launched February 2012 as JT’s most expensive mainstream cigarette at the time, ¥1,000 for twenty, from 3,500 tobacconists rather than vending machines. JT’s own launch release calls it the brand’s finest work to date and spends most of its length on the tobacco.

The blend is 100% Virginia selected by a dedicated blender, and the processing is the part worth noting: JT introduced a “new trimming” method that flash-heats the cut tobacco to strip off off-flavours, the first time that technique was used on a Japanese cigarette. The flavouring is cut back against the standard Peace, both in amount and in quality of the materials used, so the leaf leads.

The packaging is the historical footnote. It is a sealed flat tin — a シール付平型缶 — and it was the first Japanese cigarette to use one, which means no cutter and no loose tobacco in a pocket. The design is metallic navy with the brand’s gold dove. Its size is the one JT calls super king, which measures 100 mm; that is 15 mm longer than a standard Peace and makes this the longest current cigarette in the archive.

What the numbers say

Carbon monoxide not published
Length 100 mm (super king size, FSK)
Format Sealed flat tin, 20s

Pack price ¥1,000 JPY

The 100 mm figure is JT’s own size class mapped to a measurement: JT describes the product as フィルター付スーパーキングサイズ but has never published millimetres for it, and 100 mm for super king comes from independent Japanese size-class references rather than from a JT spec sheet.

Rating

None yet. The fields are set to zero, which the site reads as “not rated” rather than as a score of nought, so the rankings table shows a dash until somebody writes them.
