Peace Long (20)

ピース(20本入)

ピース(20本入) is the Peace that carries the brand, known as ロングピース or 金ピース. Where the 10- and 50-packs are filterless short cigarettes, this is a filtered king-size: the filter arrived with the 1965 relaunch.

The pack is pale yellow, and ja.wikipedia reports that Loewy’s original outer design was rebuilt by Ikko Tanaka, who is the better-known name in Japanese industrial design. The logo also changed under her: it had once been set entirely in capitals, “PEACE”, and became “Peace” with only the P capitalised.

It is filtered, but “filtered” is doing less work here than it sounds. The Peace is an aromatic cigarette; the vanillin carries, and 21 mg of tar is high by the standards of the low-tar end of the market even though the brand’s own Light and Super Light sit at 10 and 6.

What the numbers say

Spec Value
Tobacco type Flue-cured (Virginia, 黄色種) 100%
Tar 21 mg
Nicotine 1.9 mg
Carbon monoxide not published
Length 85 mm (king size, FK)
Format Soft pack, filtered
Packs per carton 10 (single source, duty-free listing)
Pack price ¥600 JPY

JT labels the size 通常サイズ (FK), the king-size class, which measures 85 mm. That figure is worth stating because 84 mm is the American convention and would be wrong here by a millimetre on every Japanese king-size product in this archive.

None yet. The fields are set to zero, which the site reads as “not rated” rather than as a score of nought, so the rankings table shows a dash until somebody writes them.
